PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Providence College men's basketball team was defeated by No. 9/10 Pittsburgh, 81-68, on February 25. Aaron Gray led Pitt with 17 points and nine rebounds.

The Friars trailed by 14 points (41-27) at halftime as they struggled in the first 20 minutes of play, shooting just 34.6 percent from the field (9-26). Junior Herbert Hill (Kinston, N.C.) and sophomore Randall Hanke (New York, N.Y.) each scored seven points to pace the Friars in the first half.

In the second half, the Friars picked up their play and cut the Pitt lead to just six points when freshman Sharaud Curry (Marrietta, Ga.) hit a jumper with 10:16 remaining in the game. Unfortunately, that was a close as PC got the remainder of the contest.

Curry finished with a game-high 24 points. He also added four rebounds and seven assists. Hill and Hanke each scored 15 points. Freshman Geoff McDermott (New Rochelle, N.Y.) continued to be a force on boards as he registered his 11th game of the season with 10 or more rebounds. He finished the contest with a game-high 14 rebounds.

Providence will return to action on Wednesday, March 1 for the final home game of the season against Notre Dame at 7:30 p.m.
