Final Stats

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) - Terry Taylor scored 10 points during a 23-5 run that lifted Virginia Tech over Providence and the Hokies held on to win 69-64 Saturday.

Virginia Tech (9-17, 3-11 Big East) trailed 33-26 at halftime after shooting 29.2 percent in the first half.

The Hokies went on a run with 8:15 remaining to take a 53-46 lead.

Providence (15-13, 6-8) answered with an 8-0 run that brought them within one with under a minute left, but Virginia Tech hit free throws the rest of the way to secure the win.

Taylor finished with 18 points, and Carlton Carter had 16 points and 10 rebounds. Carlos Dixon scored 13 for the Hokies, who shot 66.7 percent in the second half.

Ryan Gomes led the Friars with 15 points. John Lineham and Leland Anderson scored 14 points apiece, and Sheiku Kabba added 11.
