BOSTON (AP) - Troy Bell scored 39 points, including a career-high seven 3-pointers, to lead Boston College to an 89-79 victory over Providence on Wednesday night.

Ryan Sidney had 18 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds for the Eagles (17-7, 6-5 Big East), who won for just the fifth time in 11 games. Boston College improved to 10-0 this season when the backcourt of Bell and Sidney combined for 40 or more points.

Bell fell three points short of his career-high, which came in an 86-81 victory over Iowa State on Dec. 11.

Kenny Walls added 16 points and Uka Agbai had 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Eagles.

Abdul Mills scored 26 points and John Linehan had 14 points and seven assists for the Friars (14-12, 5-7), who lost for the fifth time in sixth conference road games.

The Friars scored seven points in the opening 52 seconds of the second half to go up 49-41. Bell then got hot, hitting four 3-pointers in the next 2:44 to ignite an 18-6 run that pushed the Eagles ahead 59-55 with 13:57 to play.

Providence closed within two points three times in the closing 13{ minutes, the last on Linehan's three-point play that made it 70-68 with 7:41 to go. BC then scored 12 of the next 19 points.

Bell made four free throws in the closing minute to seal the win.

The Friars won the previous meeting, 64-61 in Providence 11 days ago.
