NEWARK, N.J. - The Providence College men's basketball team (14-11, 4-8) was defeated in overtime, 72-70, at Seton Hall (15-8, 5-6) on Wednesday, Feb. 11. PC junior Rodney Bullock registered 19 points to lead the Friars.
The Friars held a five-point lead at half, as Bullock scored 13 points to pace the Friars. The Friars took the ball to the rim as they recorded 18 points in the paint in the first half. The Friars' lead grew to 15 points with 8:52 remaining in the half before the Pirates clawed back in. Seton Hall trailed by one point with 19 seconds to go in the half, but Desi Rodriquez was whistled for a flagrant 1 foul on Bullock as he was clubbed going up for a dunk. Bullock made both free throws and got the ball. Bullock was fouled again and made both free throws to send PC to the locker room with a five-point lead. Kyron Cartwright had 9 points and three assists. Emmitt Holt added seven points for the Friars in the first 20 minutes of action. Angel Delgado led SHU with 11 points and five rebounds.
In the second half, the Seton Hall battled back and took the leads. The Pirates never led by more than four points. Trailing 60-59, Bullock hit a jumper with 43 seconds left to give PC a 61-60 lead. Ten seconds later, Seton Hall's Desi Rodriquez was fouled. He made one of two free throws to force a 61-61 tie. The Friars had one more shot for the win but could not get off a shot as they committed a shot clock violation and the game went into overtime.
In OT, Seton Hall outscored the Friars 11-9. SHU's Myles Powell broke the 70-70 tie when he made a layup with nine seconds left. The Friars then drove the ball to the offensive end and Cartwright took a jumper but it did not fall and the Pirates escaped with a two-point overtime win.
In addition to Bullock's 19, Holt added 14 points and Cartwright had 13 points and five assists, Jalen Lindsey scored eight points and had a team high12 rebounds.
Khadeen Carrington scored a game-high 21 points for SHU. Delgado recorded 19 points and grabbed 15 rebounds.
Providence will return to action on Saturday, February 11 versus BIG EAST foe Butler in Providence at 4:00 p.m. on FS1.
