MIAMI (AP) - Romuald Augustin and Eron Maxey scored 13 points apiece as Providence pulled away in the second half to beat Miami 80-70 Sunday.

Karim Shabazz, a 7-foot-2 center, added 11 points as Providence (14-5, 5-2) pulled to within a half game of Boston College (5-1) for first place in the Big East Division.

Christopher Anrin added 12, including two crucial 3-pointers in the final minutes.

Marcus Barnes led Miami (10-9, 2-6) with 20 points and James Jones added 14 points as the Hurricanes fell to last place in the Big East.

Providence went on a 10-2 run to end the half tied 32-32. After halftime, Maxey scored seven points as Providence went on a 12-2 run to lead 44-34.

The closest Miami got was 51-47 after Darius Rice's 3-pointer with 10:59 remaining and again at 53-49 after Rice's free throws. Rice, who had been averaging 17.1 points in conference games, was held to seven points on 2-of-11 shooting.

Barnes hit two free throws to narrow Providence's lead to 60-55, but Anrin came back with a 3-pointer with 6:00 remaining. Another three-pointer by Anrin secured the win with 5:01 left in the game.

The Friars have won five of their last six games, with Miami their only loss on Jan. 16.
