PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's basketball team defeated Xavier, 81-72, on Saturday at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence. Junior forward LaDontae Henton (Lansing, Mich.) recorded a double-double with 23 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Senior guard Bryce Cotton (Tucson, Ariz.) also had a strong performance with a game-high 25 points and seven assists. For Cotton it was the 13th time in 20 games he has scored 20 or more points this season. With the victory, the Friars improved to 15-5 and 5-2 in the BIG EAST and moved into a tie with Xavier for third place in league standings. PC extended its winning streak to five games and improved its home record to 11-1. The 2003-04 season was the last time the Friars won five consecutive league games.

PC also connected from behind the arc in the second half with a 4-of-7 performance from three point range (57-percent). Providence's largest lead was 12 points with 12:09 remaining in the contest. Xavier pulled to within four with a layup by freshman Matt Stainbrook with 1:48 left in the game, but Cotton and sophomore Tyler Harris (Dix Hills, N.Y.) combined for five free-throws at the end to solidify the win.
Senior Kadeem Batts (Boston, Mass.) and Harris contributed 12 points apiece. Batts also pulled down eight boards.
Xavier was led by junior Justin Martin who tallied 19 points. Lis' jersey was hung in Alumni Hall and Hassett and Stacom had their jerseys hung at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.
