PHILADELPHIA, PENN. – The Providence men’s basketball team fell to No. 1 Villanova on Tuesday night, 89-69, at the Wells Fargo Center.

Seniors Rodney Bullock (Hampton, Va.) led the Friars scoring 16 points on five-of-nine shooting.

In total Providence (14-7, 5-3) had four guys in double figures, with senior Jalen Lindsey (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) scoring 14 points, and sophomore Alpha Diallo (New York, N.Y.) and senior Kyron Cartwright (Compton, Calif.) each scoring 12 points.

Villanova was paced by junior forward Eric Paschall who finished with 17 points and dished out five assists.

Defensively, the Friars had little answer for the Wildcats who shot 50-percent for the game and 53-percent in the second half.

The Wildcats led 39-30 to begin the second half, but the Friars went on an 11-5 run to pull within three.

Diallo scored six points around a Cartwright jumper, and Lindsey splashed a triple off a feed from Cartwright to trim the Wildcats lead to 44-41.

The Friars remained within eight on an Isaiah Jackson free throw but the Wildcats went on an 11-4 run bookended by three pointers from Phil Booth and Mikal Bridges to go ahead 63-48 with 8:49 left.

Providence flexed its defensive muscles early on as the Wildcats started the game 0-of-five from the floor.

Cartwright, meanwhile, drilled back-to-back triples to give the Friars an 8-3 lead four minutes into the game.

The Friars extended their lead up to 17-8 as freshman Kalif Young (Vaughan, Ontario) slammed home a two handed put back with 10:38 left in the first half.

Lindsey kept the hot start going for Providence as he splashed a three and Maleik White hit a pair at the charity stripe to put the Friars up 24-15 at the under eight media timeout.

Villanova, however hit its stride on offense to go on a 22-2 run, highlighted by seven straight points from Paschall, to take a 39-30 lead at the half.

Bullock led Providence with nine first half points.

Next up the Friars travel to Seton Hall to take on the Pirates on Wednesday, January 31 at the Prudential Center with tipoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET on FS1.
