The Providence College men's basketball team defeated Butler, 65-56, on Tuesday night at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence. Senior Kadeem Batts
(Boston, Mass.) recorded a double-double with 14 points and a career-high 17 rebounds. With the win the Friars improved to 10-1 when playing at home.
The Friars (14-5, 4-2 BIG EAST) controlled the second half and held the lead for the entire stanza. Providence's largest lead was 12 points (61-49) at the 4:07 mark. Senior Bryce Cotton (Tucson, Ariz.) led all scorers with 18 points on 5-of-12 shooting from the floor and 7-for-8 from the free throw line.
Butler (11-8, 1-6 BIG EAST) took an early 16-10 lead in the first half until Providence went on a 15-2 run to take a 25-18 advantage with 3:23 remaining in the opening frame. The Friars held a 29-26 lead at the intermission. Providence shot 46-percent (12-of-26) from the floor while Butler shot 36-percent (9-of-25). Sophomore Tyler Harris (Dix Hills, N.Y.) led the Friars with 10 points and Batts pulled down seven rebounds.
Junior LaDontae Henton (Lansing, Mich.) and Harris each tallied 12 points in the game. Providence outrebounded Butler 37 to 22.
Sophomore Kellen Dunham led the Bulldogs with 17 points and six rebounds.
The Friars will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 25 against Xavier (15-4, 5-1 BIG EAST) at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence at 12 p.m. ET. The game will air on Fox Sports 1.
