PC vs. Syracuse box, Jan. 14
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Providence College men's basketball team dropped a 78-55 decision at No. 1/1 Syracuse on Saturday, January 14. The Friars fall to 12-7, 1-5 in BIG EAST play, while the Orange improve to 19-0, 6-0 in league action.
Sophomore Kadeem Batts (Powder Springs, Ga.) led the Friars in scoring with 13 points and four assists while freshman LaDontae Henton(Lansing, Mich.) added 12 points and game-high 10 rebounds to post his sixth double-double of the season.
In the first half, Syracuse opened up to an early 4-0 lead before the Friars scored on a jump shot by Batts. Syracuse then went on a 6-0 run until the 15 minute mark. The Friars responded by going on a 10-2 run to bring the score to 12-12 with just under 10 minutes to go in the half. Then the Orange turned on a full court press which resulted in 16 turnovers in the half for the Friars. Syracuse would capitalize by closing out the half with a 21-5 run to lead 38-21, entering the locker room.
In the second half, the Orange continued to build onto their halftime lead. Kris Joseph led the Orange with 13 points while three others scored in double figures including Dion Waiters (12 points), Mookie Jones (10 points) and Scoop Jardine (10 points)
Junior guard Vincent Council(Brooklyn, N.Y.) didn't play tonight due to a coach's decision.
The Friars are back in action on Saturday, January 21, when they host No. 25/24 Marquette at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The game will be televised on COX and the opening tip is set for 7:00 p.m.
