    VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Providence College men's basketball team (10-5, 0-2) was defeated by No. 11 Villanova, 91-61, on Sunday, January 5. The Friars were led by senior guard Bryce Cotton (Tucson, Ariz.), who scored a game-high 25 points.

    Villanova jumped out to a 50-26 halftime lead and never looked back. The Wildcats made seven of their 14 threes in the game during the first 20 minutes of action. Cotton scored 16 points for the Friars in the first 20 minutes as the team shot 7-22 from the field in the first half. Darrun Hilliard led the Wildcats with 12 points in the first half.

    In the second half, Villanova, outscored the Friars, 41-35. Villanova shot 59.6 percent from the field for the game and 53.8 percent (14-26) from three point territory.

    In addition to Cotton's 25 points, junior forward LaDontae Henton (Lansing, Mich.) added 17 points and senior center Kadeem Batts (Boston, Mass.) scored 10 points.

    JayVaughn Pinkston led Villanova (13-1, 2-0) with 19 points and seven rebounds.

    The Friars will return to action on Wednesday, January 8 versus Georgetown at 7:00 p.m. at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Fox Sports 1.
