PC vs. Louisville Box
LOUISVILLE, K.Y. -- The Providence College men's basketball team was defeated, 80-62, at No. 4 Louisville on Wednesday, Jan. 2. It was the BIG EAST opener for both teams.
The Friars (8-5, 0-1) jumped out to a 13-3 lead in the first four minutes of the game as Vincent Council, Josh Fortune and Bryce Cotton all hit three pointers to pace the offense. However, Louisville (13-1, 1-0) turned up the defensive pressure on the Friars and forced the team into 11 first half turnovers which they converted into 19 points and entered the half with a 37-31 lead.
In the second half, Russ Smith continued to shoot the ball well for the Cardinals as he scored 23 points in the game on 8-14 shooting. The Louisville defense wore down the Friars in the second half as they outscored PC, 43-31.
Junior Kadeem Batts led the Friars with 17 points. Cotton added 16 points.
The Friars will return to action on Saturday versus DePaul at 8:00 p.m. It will end a three-game road swing for the Friars. It also will mark the team's BIG EAST home opener.
