Ruben Garces competed for Providence College for two seasons from 1995-97 after transferring from Navarro Community College. Garces played a key role on the 1997 NCAA Tournament team, posting 9.5 points and 7.8 rebounds per game during the Friars magical run to the Elite Eight under Head Coach Pete Gillen.

In the NBA, Ruben played with the Phoenix Suns and the Golden State Warriors during the 2000-01 season after being signed as an undrafted free agent. He has also played in the American CBA, the Spanish ACB, in Argentina, Venezuela, and France. Garces is currently a Panamanian professional basketball player playing with Pamesa Valencia from the Spanish ACB.
