Providence College Friars Announce 1997-98 Television Schedule
21 of 27 Regular Season Games to Be Broadcast
Providence, R.I. - The Providence College basketball team will appear on
television 21 times during the 1997-98 season including seven times on national
television - either CBS, NBC, ESPN or ESPN2. Locally, the Friars can be seen
on several outlets. Five Friars' games will be broadcast on Sportschannel New
England, three on ABC6 (WLNE-TV 6), four on WLWC - TV 28, one on ABCX (Channel
48) and one on Cox Communications cable system.
PC's first televised game comes on November 30th when the Friars open BIG
EAST play with a 7:00 p.m. game against the Boston College Eagles.
Sportschannel New England will carry this game. Sportschannel will also have
the Friars on January 7th versus Syracuse, January 20th at Boston College,
January 31st versus Seton Hall and February 11th at Seton Hall.
The first of three ESPN games comes on December 2nd when PC faces Utah in
the DirectTV Great Eight Tournament at 7:30 p.m. ESPN will also televise the
Friars' February 18th game versus Miami and the February 23rd game at
Connecticut. ESPN2 will carry a pair of PC's games. The first is January 13th
at Syracuse and the second is a January 27th home game with Connecticut.
The Friars will appear in three BIG EAST Games of the Week this season with
all three games appearing on WLWC - TV 28 which is available on all cable
systems. Besides the BIG EAST Games of the Week on January 3rd at Georgetown,
January 17th versus St. John's and February 21st at Pittsburgh, TV-28 will also
carry the Friars January 24th game at West Virginia.
ABC6 (WLNE-TV) will carry the Friars Janaury 10th home game with
Pittsburgh, the February 8th game at Rutgers and the February 14th game with
Villanova. ABCX which is Channel 48 in Providence will carry the Friars'
February 4th game at Miami.
Cox Communications will carry the Friars "road" game against the University
of Rhode Island on December 9th.
Pete Gillen's Friars will appear twice on national television during the
regular season. CBS will carry the Providence at Purdue game on Saturday,
December 29th at 2:00 p.m. The Friars appear on NBC on February 28th when the
Notre Dame Fighting Irish visit Providence in a 3:00 p.m. game.
All of the games of the BIG EAST Tournament which will be held March 4th
through March 7th at New York's Madison Square Garden will be televised on ESPN
or ESPN2 depending on game times each day.
