John O'Neill Announces Team Captains For Swimming And Diving Programs

May 18, 2018

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College swimming and diving Head Coach John O’Neill announced the captains for the upcoming 2018-19 season today [May 18]. Rising seniors Maddie Snow (Bethany, Conn.) and Liam Straker (South Glastonbury, Conn.) were elected by their teammates to represent and lead the women's and men's programs, respectively.

Snow was the recipient of the Cindi Luciani Award, honoring the Most Valuable Student-Athlete in dual and championship competition for the Friars for the 2017-18 season. She has been a versatile and consistent force for the Friars during her first three years in the distance, individual medley and butterfly events. At the 2018 BIG EAST Championships, Snow led the Friars to an outstanding meet, posting season bests in her individual events and scoring as a member of the team's 800-yard freestyle relay. Snow will also serve as President of the Athletic Department’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) for the 2018-19 season.

Straker was the recipient of the Jan and Brian Larkin Award for the 2017-18 season, honoring the athlete who improved the most during the course of the season. His development over his three years in the middle distance freestyle events has been the backbone to the Friar lineup. Straker posted lifetime bests again this season in his individual events at the 2018 BIG EAST Championship and scored as a member of the Friars' 400-yard and 800-yard freestyle relays.

The Friars will return to competition in the fall of 2018 with the annual New England Catholic Invitational at Boston College.
