Swimming and Diving Defeated by Georgetown

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Providence College swimming and diving team took on Georgetown University on Saturday, Feb.13 at McCarthy Pool in Washington D.C. The men were defeated by the Hoyas, 166-111, while the women fell 163-123.

For the women, freshman Emma Buckley (Springfield, N.J.) placed first in the 100y butterfly with a time of 1:01.54. Sophomore Katherine Fallon (Warren, N.J.) came in first in the 500y freestyle (5:14.82). Junior Colleen Hartigan (Suffern, N.Y.) finished first in the 200y IM (2:18.53). The Friars also took home first place in the 200y freestyle relay (1:42.72).

On the men’s side, individual first place finishes came from junior Zach Begnaud () in the 200y IM (2:02.48), sophomore Chris Asgian (Loveland, Ohio) in the 100y butterfly (55.26), and freshman Jerod Magazine () in the 500y freestyle (5:00.26). The Friars also took first place in the 200y freestyle relay (1:32.04).

On the diving board, sophomore Kendall Jerzyk (Madison, Conn.) placed first in the 1m diving event with a score of 225.53.

The Friars return to action on Wednesday, February 24 for the first day of the BIG EAST Swimming & Diving Championships at the Nassau County Aquatic Center in East Meadow, N.Y.
