On Saturday, February 6, the swimming teams traveled to Chestnut Hill to take on Bryant, Keene State, UMass and the host school, Boston College in the New England Invitational. The Friars recorded individual results.

The men's swimming team was led by sophomore Matt Green (Westfield, N.J.) who placed second out of 28 in the 50y freestyle (22.74). Senior Owen Hughes (Portland, Maine) and junior Joey Welch (New Bedford, Mass.) also did well in the event, posting times of 23.05 and 23.11, respectively. The times were enough to give Hughes a seventh place finish and Welch an eighth place finish. Hughes also did well for the Friars in the 100y freestyle event, placing seventh out of 25 with a time of 49.76.

The women's squad was led by freshman Sam Schlich (Massepequa, N.Y.) who recorded a time of 26.29 in the freestyle relay, helping to earn the Friars a third place finish in the event. Schlich also finished second out of eight competitors in the 200y freestyle (2:01.31). Schlich was edged out by less than one second by freshman Breanna Stewart of Boston College in that event. Freshman Erin Nanna (Westwood, Mass.) did well in the 50y freestyle, finishing third (25.82), less than one second off the pace. Nanna continued her progression in the 100y freestyle with a time of 56.14. Her time was good enough to place fourth out of the field of 14.

The Friar diving teams will conclude their 2009-10 season on Friday, February 12 when they travel to Pittsburgh, Pa. for the BIG EAST championships held at the University of Pittsburgh's Trees Pool. The diving teams will compete until Sunday, February 14. The Friar swimming teams will finish their season up also at Trees Pool in Pittsburgh, Pa. as they compete from Wednesday, February 17 until Saturday, February 20.
