The Providence College men's and women's swimming and diving teams were defeated by Drexel in Philadelphia, Pa. over the weekend. The men's team came up short in a 152-114 loss, while the women's team was defeated by the Dragons, 131-95.

Senior Mathew Card (Bow, N.H.) was impressive for the Friars, winning the 100y freestyle in a time of 49.25 and placing second in the 50y freestyle (22.30). In addition to his freestyle times, Card swam the final leg of the 200y medley relay to earn the Friars a second place finish and 4 points. Overall, Card helped to earn the team 17 points. Freshman Eric Burtchell (Pawtucket, R.I.), Sophomore Collin Casciano (Hewitt, N.J.), and Senior Mike Loftis (Branford, Conn.) rounded out the second place medley team, which fell to a veteran group of Drexel swimmers.

The women’s squad was led by the freestyle swimming of Freshman Erin Nanna (Westwood, Mass.). Nanna placed first in the 50y freestyle event with a time of 25.78 and first in the 100y freestyle (56.22). Nanna almost swept all the individual freestyle events, but was second to Jessica Csakai of Drexel in the 200y freestyle who finished three seconds ahead of freshman, Nanna.

The Friars look to get back in the win column this Saturday, January 30, as they take on Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. The meet is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
