Swimming & Diving Defeated by Villanova
Jan. 24, 2010 Philadelphia, Pa. - The Providence College men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell to Villanova on Friday night. The women's team was defeated 127-58, while the men's team came up short against the Wildcats, 121-92. Freshman Eric Burtchell (Pawtucket, R.I.) had an impressive performance in the 1000y freestyle event, outstretching the Villanova competitor, Ted Sukramani, by three-hundredths-of-a-second. Burtchell finished in a time of 10:16.65. Sophomore Collin Casciano (Hewitt, N.J.) also did well for the Friars, finishing first in the 100y butterfly event with a time of 54.25. The Friars continued their great success in the freestyle relay events, winning the 200y freestyle relay with a time of 1:30.70. Sophomore Matt Green (Westfield, N.J.) led the way with a 22.34 second split time. The women's team was held winless in every event in the meet with the exception of the 100y breaststroke. Freshman Samantha Coyle (Pearl River, N.Y.) paced the heat in the 100y breaststroke event as the Friars took the top-four spots. In the one meter diving events freshman Ben Kardian (Valhalla, N.Y.) had an impressive dive that landed him 243.07 points, enough to earn him a second-place finish. Freshmen Allie Black (Mystic, Conn.) and Amy Fracker (Trumbull, Conn.) dove well for the Friars, placing third and fourth, respectively. The swimming and diving teams stayed in Philadelphia, Pa. over the weekend to take on Drexel on Saturday. Results to come.
