The Providence College Swimming & Diving teams competed at the Harold Anderson Invitational on Friday, November 30 and Saturday, December 1. The University of Rhode Island, the University of Maine, and Fairfield University also swam at the annual meet held in Kingston, R.I. Rhode Island took first place in both the men's and women's categories, earning 703 and 725 points, respectively. Both Friar teams placed third, the men swimming to 445.5 points and the women finishing with 355.

With Providence's solid performance, seven Friars swam to BIG EAST qualifying times in twelve different events. For the women, freshman Alexis Fatigati (New Milford, N.J.) qualified in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:15.47, and junior Lauren Sepe (Warwick, R.I.) qualified in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:11.61.

On the men's side, sophomores Tim Reilly (Floral Park, N.Y.) and Matthew Card led the way, both qualifying in three different events apiece. Reilly qualified in the 100-yard backstroke (54.88), 200-yard backstroke (1:56.86), and the 200-yard butterfly (2:00.36), while Card qualified in the 200-yard individual medley (2:00.71), 100-yard fly (53.60), and the 100-yard freestyle (48.40). Junior Chris Ray (Basking Ridge, N.J.) qualified in two events: the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:00.80, and the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:15.50. Sophomore Mike Loftis (Branford, Conn.) and junior Ryan Clark (Taunton, Mass.) each qualified in one event, Loftis in the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.20) and Clark in the 200-yard backstroke (2:01.01).

The Harold Anderson Invitational marked the final event of the semester for the Friars. Both teams will travel to St. Thomas of the U.S. Virgin Islands on January 4, 2008 for a 10-day winter training trip. The training trip will include a meet against intra-state rival Bryant University on Thursday, January 10. The time for the meet has yet to be announced.
