PROVIDENCE, R.I.— The men’s swimming and diving team split their meet with WPI and the Coast Guard Academy. The Friars fell to the Coast Guard Academy 169.5-116.5 but defeated WPI by the score of 170-129. The Coast Guard Academy also defeated WPI, 191-105.
Sophomore John Fatigati (Mahwah, N.J.) took first-place in three events to lead the Friars. Fatigati tied for first-place in the 100y backstroke (55.55), took first-place in the 200y backstroke (1:57.88) and won the 200y IM (1:59.32). Juniors Andrew St. Pierre (Fairhaven, Mass.) and Connor Lui (Monroe, Conn.) collected five second place finishes combined. St. Pierre took second place in the 100y breaststroke, finishing in 1:02.80, 200y breaststroke, finishing in 2:17.74 and the 200y IM in 2:06.56. Lui finished the 50y freestyle in 22.44 and the 100y butterfly in 55.08. Sophomore Justin Tse (Framingham, Mass.) took third-place in the 200y freestyle (1:48.64) and the 100y freestyle, touching the wall in 49.78. Lui, Luiz, senior Eric Burtchell (Pawtucket, R.I.) and junior Michael Luiz (New Bedford, Mass.) combined to win the 400y freestyle relay, winning the event in 3:20.28.
Senior Ben Kardian (Valhalla, N.Y.) won both the 1m and 3m diving events. Kardian received 262.10 points in the 1m dive and 245.40 points to win the 3m diving event.
The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will compete next in the two-day Harold Anderson Invitational, Friday, Nov. 30 and Saturday, Dec. 1 in Kingston, R.I. Friday is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. while Saturday is slated for a 10:00 a.m. start.
