Women's Swimming and Diving Defeat WPI and The Coast Guard Academy

    NEW LONDON, CONN. - The Providence College women's swimming and diving team defeated the Coast Guard Academy (198-82) and WPI (183-97) at the Coast Guard's Roland Pool on Friday, Nov. 15. WPI also defeated the Coast Guard Academy, 139-138.

    Senior Jill Mullany (Monroe, Conn.) led the team by winning first in three individual events, the 200y freestyle (1:59.02), the 50y freestyle (24.99), and the 100y freestyle (54.24). Freshman Helen Smith (Belmont, Mass.) took first in the 200y backstroke (2:12.26) and the 100y backstroke (1:02.34). Junior Leia Federiconi (Williamsville, N.Y.) collected a couple of first-place finishes in the 100y breaststroke (1:09.09) and 200y breaststroke (2:31.36). The Friars also won first place in both relays. For the 200y medley relay, junior Kelly O'Neill (Rye, N.Y.), Federiconi, senior Kelly Hall (Morristown, N.J.), and sophomore Reilly O'Connell (West Barnstable, Mass.) finished at 1:54.02, while O'Connell, O'Neill, freshman Mary McKenna (Wethersfield, Conn.), and Mullany finished the 400y freestyle in 3:40.77.

    The men's swimming and diving team will compete at home against the Coast Guard Academy and WPI, Saturday Nov. 16 at 1:00 p.m. to close out the two day event.
