PROVIDENCE, R.I. --The Providence College women’s swimming and diving team fell to Rhode Island at home on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 158-120.
Sophomore Kelly O’Neill (Rye, N.Y.) collected two individual first-place finishes in the loss. O’Neill won the 100m backstroke, finishing in 1:10.09 as well as the 200m backstroke, touching the wall in 2:26.86. Senior Sam Schlich (Massepequa, N.Y.) won the 50m freestyle event in 28.20. O’Neill, Schlich, junior Samantha DeGroff (Berlin, Conn.) and freshman Reilly O’Connell (West Barnstable, Mass.) combined to win the 200m freestyle relay, winning the event in 1:55.08. Senior Allie Black (Mystic, Conn.) won the 1m diving event with 280.00 points.
The meet was the third annual Pink Out between the two teams. The proceeds from the meet will be donated to the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation. The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will compete again in a two day event with WPI and the Coast Guard Academy on Friday, Nov. 16 in Providence, R.I. and Saturday, Nov. 17 in New London, Conn.
