Women's Swimming and Diving Falls to Rhode Island

    KINGSTON, R.I. - The Providence College women's swimming and diving team fell to Rhode Island 149-105 at Tootell Aquatics Center on Wednesday, November 13.

    The women recorded five first place finishes, including four individual events and one relay. Sophomore Lauren Griffin (Coatesville, Pa.) gained her first collegiate first place finish in the 1m diving event with 212.77 points. Junior Leia Federiconi (Williamsville, N.Y.) took first in the 100y breaststroke with a time of 1:10.22. Senior Kelly Hall (Morristown, N.J.) picked up a pair of wins in the 50y butterfly (29.03) and the 100y IM (1:03.78). The relay team of freshmen Katie Ainley (Rehoboth, Mass.), Helen Smith (Belmont, Mass.), Angela Caputo (Longmeadow, Mass.), and Mary McKenna (Wethersfield, Conn.) won the 200y freestyle relay (1:45.47).

    This meet marked the fourth annual Pink Out between the two teams. The proceeds from the meet will be donated to the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation. The women's team will compete next on November 15, when they travel to New London, Conn. to face the Coast Guard Academy and WPI at 6:00 p.m.
