Swimming And Diving Earns First BIG EAST Victory

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. - The Providence College Friars women’s swimming and diving team earned its first BIG EAST victory against the Butler University Bulldogs. The Friars defeated the Bulldogs, 151-111, on Saturday, Nov. 7.

 
Sophomore Katherine Fallon (Warren, N.J.) finished first in the 1000y freestyle (10:48.74), followed by teammate Colleen Hartigan (Suffern, N.Y.) in second (11:02.60). Fallon also took first place in the 500y freestyle (5:14.12) and the 200y freestyle (1:56.96). Hartigan would go on to swim an impressive 4:45.68 to finish first in the 400y IM.
 
In the 100y breaststroke, sophomore Abby Czerniecki (Haddonfield, N.J.) finished in first place (1:09.80) in addition to a first-place finish in the 200y breaststroke (2:33.26). Freshman Mackenzie Cloughlin (Darien, Conn.) placed first in the 200y butterfly (2:11.99) and second in the 100y butterfly (59.94).
 
Other second place finishers for the Friars were Sophia Forneris (New York, N.Y.) in the 200y freestyle (1:59.68), Juliet McGlaughlin (West Chester, Pa.) in the 100y backstroke (1:02.78), Katie Hickey (Eden Prairie, Minn.) in the 100y breaststroke (1:10.68), Kaylie O’Connell (Stoneham, Mass.) in the 200y butterfly (2:15.20), the 400y IM (4:48.72), and the 500y freestyle (5:24.5), Helen Smith (Belmont, Mass.) in the 200y backstroke (2:09.88) and Katherine Ainley (Rehoboth, Mass.) in the 200y breaststroke (2:36.57).
 
The Friars take on the Rams from the University of Rhode Island on Tuesday, Nov. 10 in Kingston, R.I. at 6:00 p.m. ET
