This weekend, the Friars travelled to Newtown, Mass. to compete in the Northeast Catholic Invitational as they started off the new season. Facing some tough competition, the men finished in second place, while the women took home fifth.
Key performances from John Freeman, Jonathan Batista, and Sebastian Melendez led the men to their second-place finish. Batista combined for 59 points, with a third-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (55.05) and a fourth-place finish in 200-yard backstroke (1:58.58).
Freeman teamed up to bring home 55 points, highlighted by a second-place finish in 200-yard freestyle (1:48.19). Melendez also contributed to 56 points, taking home second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:00.06).
On the women’s side, Kendall Jerzyk dominated on the diving board placing first and second in the 1-meter and 3-meter dive, respectively. Lauren Zawacki also had an impressive performance in 50-yard freestyle, taking third with a time of 25.00.
The Friars are back in action on Friday, Oct. 20 at 5:00 PM at Bryant University.
