Jerzyk Wins Bronze Medal at BIG EAST Championships

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. - The Providence College swimming & diving team completed the first day at the BIG EAST Swimming & Diving Championships at the Nassau County Aquatic Center on Wednesday evening, Feb. 24. At the conclusion of day one the women’s team finished in second place with 82 points and the men’s team finished in fifth with 56 points.

To start off the meet the women’s 800y freestyle relay placed sixth (7:43.76) with the team consisting of Reilly O’Connell (West Barnstable, Mass.), Helen Smith (Belmont, Mass.), Kelly Quinn (Garden City, N.Y.), and Katherine Fallon (Warren, N.J.).

In the second event of the evening the men’s 800y freestyle relay earned a fifth place finish with the team of Zachary Begnaud (Natchitoches, La.), Liam Straker (South Glastonbury, Conn.), Jerod Magazine (Coto De Caza, Calif.), and Ricky Billig (Sudbury, Mass).

Sophomore Kendall Jerzyk (Madison, Conn.) placed third in the 1m diving event (441.40), enough to earn herself a bronze medal.

In the women’s 200y medley relay O’Connell, Abigail Czerniecki (Haddonfield, N.J.), Hayley McClure (West Hartford, Conn.), and Quinn came in sixth place (1:48.66).


 

 

The men’s 200y relay team rounded out the night with a fifth place finish (1:36.72) with the team of Billig, Connor Fabian (LaGrange Park, Ill.), Michael Martinico (Nesconset, N.Y.), and Charlie Sabaitis (Spring Lake, N.J.).

The BIG EAST Swimming & Diving Championships will resume on Thursday morning at 10 a.m. at the Nassau County Aquatic Center.
