Mens Swimming Sets New School Record at BIG EAST Championship

Geneva, Ohio -

The Providence College Swimming and Diving team traveled to Geneva, Ohio to compete in the BIG EAST Championship. Today marked the first of four days of competition, and the Friars came out strong.

Diving standout, Kendall Jerzyk, continued to shine on the board today. Although facing intense competition, Jerzyk kept her composure and represented Providence in spectacular fashion in the 3-meter dive. Her finals score was 443.95 as she earned a 5th place finish and 13 points for the Women.

The Men's 200 Medley relay was the big highlight of day one. The relay team of Jonathan Batista, Ryan Trammell, Charles Sabaitis, and Patrick Brannigan set a new school record with their performance today. Anchor, Brannigan touched the wall in 1:34.28 seconds. The team broke the school record set in 2014 (Fatigati, St. Pierre, Lui, McLaughlin) of 1:34.93.

Day two will begin at 10 a.m. ET with the prelims for the 500-free, 200-IM, 50-free and the men's one-meter diving with the finals being run in the third session of the championships at 6 p.m. on Thursday. The finals of the 200-freestyle relay will close out the session.

All Championship action will air live on the BIG EAST Digital Network on Fox Sports Go, with wall-to-wall coverage that includes all event preliminaries, finals and awards.
