Swimming And Diving Topped By Maine

ORONO, MAINE -

The Providence College men's and women's swimming and diving teams took on the University of Maine in Orono, Maine on Saturday, Jan. 28. The Black Bears outscored the Friars on both the men’s and women’s side, 169-120 and 170-121, respectively. 

Junior Katie Fallon (Warren, N.J.) notched two individual first place finishes. Fallon finished the 200-yard freestyle in first with a 1:57.72 and the 500-yard freestyle with a 5:12.54. 

Senior Helen Smith (Belmont, Mass.) was first to the wall in the 200-yard backstroke, besting the field with a 2:12.37. 

On the diving board, junior Kendall Jerzyk (Madison, Conn.) won 1-meter diving event with 233.55. Jerzyk would return to the pool to win the 3-meter dive with a 217.20.

On the men’s side, Sophomore Jerod Magazine grabbed the first victory for the Friars. Magazines 10:27.15 was good enough to top the crowd in the 1000-yard freestyle.

Freshman Patrick Brannigan (Madison, Conn.) finished first in the 100-yard freestyle (22.38), narrowly edging out Shane Kinnon of Maine by 0.04 seconds.

Other individual first place finishes came from sophomore Jonathan Batista (Southboro, Mass.) and Senior Zach Begnaud (Natchitoches, La.) in the 200-yard backstroke and the 500-yard freestyle, respectively.


 

 

Providence College returns to the pool on Saturday, Feb. 11 at the Taylor Natatorium in Providence, R.I. to take on Georgetown University. The meet is set to begin at 10:00 a.m. ET.
