Worcester, Mass. -
The Friars Swimming and Diving teams traveled to Worcester, Mass. to take on the College of the Holy Cross today, Jan. 20, 2018. In two close matches, both the men and women came up just short against the Crusaders. The women lost 180-117, and the men 156-132.
Senior, Katherine Fallon was nearly unstoppable today, collecting 27 points in only three individual events. She dominated in both the 1000 yard freestyle (10:58.29) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:19.95). The 200 yard freestyle was an intensely close bout with Holy Cross Freshman, Emily Sullivan. Fallon outstretched Sullivan to touch the wall in 1:58.63, winning by only 0.05 seconds, and bringing home maximum points for the Friars.
On the Men's side, top performer Jonathan Batista had another strong meet. Freshman, Mark McLaughlin swam a very similar meet, and the two combined to earn 26 points for Providence. Junior, Batista took first place in the 200 yard backstroke (2:00.49), followed very closely by McLaughlin (2:00.72). Batista also added a third place finish in the 100 yard backstroke (55.37), as he trailed McLaughlin this time, who finished in second with a time of 55.13. Batista ended his day with a second place finish in the 200 yard IM (2:02.89), where McLaughlin took fourth (2:05.68).
Be sure to come out to Taylor Natatorium at 11:00am on Saturday, Jan. 27, as the Friars host the University of Maine in their last home meet of the 2017-18 season.
