Swimming And Diving Defeated by Connecticut College

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College swimming and diving team took on Connecticut College in Providence, R.I. on Monday Jan. 18 in the Taylor Natatorium. The Friars were outscored by the Camels on both the men’s side (207-55) and the women’s side (198-96).

On the women’s side, junior Helen Smith (Belmont, Mass.) grabbed first place in the 200m backstroke (2:24.72). Sophomore Katherine Fallon (Warren, N.J.) finished second in the 200m Freestyle (2:08.75) and the 400m freestyle (4:30.29). Also, junior Colleen Hartigan (Suffern, N.Y.) came in second place in the 200m IM (2:32.12).

The Friars took second place in the 200m Medley Relay (2:05.27) with the team consisting of Reilly O’Connell (West Barnstable, Mass.), Katie Ainley (Rehoboth, Mass.), Hayley McClure (West Hartford, Conn.), and Kelly Quinn(Garden City, N.Y.). The 200m freestyle relay team also took second place with Mary McKenna (Wethersfield, Conn.), Juliet McGlaughlin (West Chester, Pa.), Erin Cunningham (Lynnfield, Mass.), and Kelly Quinn swimming a time of 1:53.81.

On the men’s side, freshman Jonathan Batista (Southboro, Mass.) placed second in the 200m IM (2:17.08) and the 200m backstroke (2:10.87). Senior Zach Begnaud (Natchitoches, La.) placed second in the 400m freestyle (4:17.04).


 

 

At the diving board the trio of Kendall Jerzyk (Madison, Conn.), Sarah Burrous (Methuen, Mass.), and Molly Anthony (Swansea, Mass.) went 1-2-3 on both 1-meter diving events.

The Providence College Friars travel to Worcester, Mass. on Jan. 23 to face the Holy Cross Crusaders at 11:00 a.m. ET.
