Villanova, Pa. - The Providence College men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell to the Villanova Wildcats on Saturday, Jan. 18 at the Villanova Swim Complex. The men's team fell 154-74 while the women were defeated 130-95.
The men's team collected four first place victories against the Wildcats. Junior John Fatigati (Mahwah, N.J.) took first in the 200y IM (2:00.42), junior Justin Tse (Framingham, Mass.) found victory in the 200y freestyle (1:45.48), and senior Andrew St. Pierre (Fairhaven, Mass.) earned first in the 200y breaststroke (2:19.99). The 200y freestyle relay team made up of graduate student Kyle McLaughlin (Warrington, Pa.), freshman Michael Martinico (Nesconset, N.Y.), freshman Jonny Mariner (Marion, Mass.) and Tse secured first place with a time of 1:30.59.
The women's team recorded two first place finishes. Junior Leia Federiconi (Williamsville, N.Y.) earned an individual first place in the 200y breaststroke (2:33.23), while the relay team of sophomore Reilly O'Connell (West Barnstable, Mass.), freshman Mary McKenna (Wethersfield, Conn.), junior Kelly O'Neill (Rye, N.Y.), and senior Jill Mullany (Monroe, Conn.) took first in the 200y freestyle (1:43.12).
The teams' next meet will take place at Holy Cross on Jan. 25 when the Friars travel to Worcester, Mass. to take on the Crusaders at 11:00 a.m.
