Field Of 12 Set For 2000 NCAA Hockey Championship

Maine, Wisconsin earns No. 1 Seeds.

PROVIDENCE, R.I -- On Sunday, March 19, 12 schools were selected to participate in the 2000 NCAA Men's Division I Hockey Championship. The 12 schools were divided into two regional sites (East and West). The six teams in the West Regional will play on March 24-25 at the Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis, Minn. The six teams in the East Regional will play on March 25-26 at the Pepsi Arena in Albany, N.Y.

The two highest-seeded teams at each regional site receive first-round byes. The four regional winners advance to the Frozen Four in Providence on April 6 and 8. The entire championship uses a single-elimination format.

2000 NCAA DIVISION I MEN'S ICE HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIP DATES/SITES/PAIRINGS:

West Regional, March 24-25 --
Mariucci Arena, Minneapolis, Minnesota
All times are Central.

    March 24, 5 p.m.: No. 3 seed New Hampshire (23-8-6) vs. No. 6 seed Niagara (29-7-4)

    March 24, 8:30 p.m.: No. 4 seed Boston College (26-11-1) vs. No. 5 seed Michigan St. (27-10-4)

    March 25, 5 p.m.: Winner of New Hampshire/Niagara vs. No. 2 seed North Dakota (28-8-5)

    March 25, 8:30 p.m.: Winner of Boston College/Michigan St. vs. No. 1 seed Wisconsin (31-8-1).

East Regional, March 25-26 --
Pepsi Arena, Albany, New York
All times are Eastern.

    March 25, Noon: No. 3 seed Boston U. (24-9-7) vs. No. 6 seed St. Cloud St. (23-13-3)

    March 25, 3:30 p.m.: No. 4 seed Colgate (24-8-2) vs. No. 5 seed Michigan (26-9-4)

    March 26, Noon: Winner of Boston U./St. Cloud St. vs. No. 2 seed St. Lawrence (26-7-2)

    March 26, 3:30 p.m.: Winner of Colgate/Michigan vs. No. 1 seed Maine (26-7-5)

Frozen Four, April 6 and 8 --
Providence Civic Center, Providence, Rhode Island
All times are Eastern.

    April 6, 2:00 p.m. (ESPN2): Semifinal Game #1

    April 6, 7:00 p.m. (ESPN2): Semifinal Game #2

    April 8, 7:30 p.m. (ESPN): Championship

SELECTION PROCESS: Automatic qualification privileges are granted to the regular-season and post-season champions of four conferences (HOCKEY EAST, ECAC, CCHA and WCHA). The remainder of the field is selected at-large. Regular season champions were Boston University (HOCKEY EAST), St. Lawrence (ECAC), Michigan (CCHA) and Wisconsin (WCHA). The post-season champions were Maine (HOCKEY EAST), St. Lawrence (ECAC), Michigan State (CCHA) and North Dakota (WCHA).
