A native of East Providence, R.I., John Rock began his tenure in the Providence College Department in 1988. He spent 13 years as associate head athletic trainer and, in 2001, was promoted to assistant athletic director for sports medicine. In 2010, Rock was promoted to associate athletic director for sports medicine and continues to oversees all aspects of the sports medicine program, including strength and conditioning. During his time as a Friar, Rock worked with the baseball program, spent 4 years on the bench with the men's ice hockey team, and just finished his 20th season on the sidelines with the men's soccer program.
Rock is actively involved with the Rhode Island Athletic Trainers Association and was inducted into its hall of fame in January 2007.
Rock and his wife, Patty, live in Cranston with their three children, Patrick, Abby and Maggie.
