Providence College Ranked 56th In U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup Standings

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College finished 56th among 327 Division I colleges and universities with 42 points in the second fall Division I U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup standings. The Providence women's cross country team earned 22 points with its 26th place finish at the NCAA's Cross Country Championships on November 19, in Terre Haute, Ind. The men's team placed 27th at the NCAA Championship and earned 20 points in the Directors' Cup.

Providence finished sixth among BIG EAST Conference members. Connecticut led the league in seventh place overall with 156 points, 69 points behind the leader Stanford. West Virginia (12th), Notre Dame (21st), Georgetown (28th) and Louisville (30th) rounded out the list of top-five BIG EAST institutions. Providence also placed ninth among the 96 Division 1-AAA schools in the standings. Northern Arizona is currently ranked first among 1-AAA institutions with 149 points. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 20 sports - 10 women's and 10 men's.

The next Division I standings will be released Thursday, December 20th and will include Football Championship Subdivision football, women's volleyball and men's soccer. The final fall release will be published on January 10, and will include the Football Bowl Subdivision Football standings.
