June 12, 2014
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -
On Monday, June 2, 2014, the Providence College Athletic Department held its annual Cox Sports Friar Golf Classic at Warwick Country Club in Warwick, R.I. The event was completely sold out and helped to raise over $130,000. The event serves as the athletic department's primary fundraiser and proceeds benefit Providence College's 300 student-athletes through academic scholarships and support. The funds from the event go to the Friar Forever Athletic Fund, which also seeks to improve Providence College's athletic facilities.
Providence College thanks its title sponsor Cox Sports, in addition to presenting sponsors ABM, Atlantic Development Group, Learfield Sports, and Hannoush Jewelers. Providence College Athletics would also like to thank Coca Cola and Mark Gasbarro ’97 from Gasbarro Wines for donating the beverages along with Graphic Innovations for donating the tee signs. Each year the event gains a great deal of support from many notable alumni and local businesses.
Participants at the event had the opportunity to meet Athletic Director, Bob Driscoll and interact with coaches and student-athletes at various holes on the course. Donors also had the chance to have their photo taken with the 2014 Men’s Basketball BIG EAST Championship trophy and the 2014 Women’s Cross Country National Championship trophy.
The day started off with a lunch followed by a round of golf beginning at 11:30 a.m. All players in attendance received an assortment of Nike and Titleist gifts, and were treated to Capital Grille steaks and oysters on the course. After the tournament, the day concluded with a reception that included dinner, an auction and an awards presentation.
