National Grid Foundation Kicks Off Hoops for the Stars Program

Jan. 10, 2018
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - For the 10th consecutive year, the National Grid Foundation and Providence College Athletics have teamed up to bring the Hoops for the Stars program to local elementary and middle school students.

The program which has become ingrained in the Providence school system provides tickets to PC mens and women's basketball games as a reward for positive behavior both in the classroom and the community. This year 5,500 tickets will be earned by deserving students.

On December 18, Friar basketball student-athletes Nate Watson and Drew Edwards visited Nathan Bishop Middle School to speak to the students and share their personal stories and the obstacles they overcame on their journey from middle school to Providence College.

The Hoops for the Stars Program will continue through the balance of the school year and culminates with a city wide essay contest where the winning essay will receive a surprise visit from the Friar men's and women's basketball teams.
