    Future Providence College hockey players Mark Jankowski (St. Catherines, Ont.) and Jon Gillies (South Portland, Maine) were selected in the 2012 NHL Draft which took place on June 22-23 in Pittsburgh, Pa.   Jankowski was picked in the first round (21st overall) by the Calgary Flames and Gillies was taken in the third round (75th overall) also by Calgary.     Former Providence College hockey defenseman Mark Fayne '10 recorded a career-high two assists to lead the New Jersey Devils to a 5-3 victory over the New York Rangers on Wednesday, May 23 in game five of the NHL's Eastern Conference Finals at Madison Square Garden.  The Devils lead the best-of-seven series, 3-2, and game six will be at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 25 at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.     Senior Andy Balysky, junior Kyle Murphy and sophomore Steven Shamanski were inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma at the Providence College Sixth Annual Student-Athlete Academic Achievement Ceremony.  Balysky, Murphy and Shamanski were three of 53 PC student-athletes recognized for attaining a 3.5 cumulative grade-point average or higher.  FULL RELEASE

    Ross Mauermann Named To Hockey East All-Rookie Team

    Ross Mauermann was named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team.  Mauermann is the first Friar to be named to the All-Rookie Team since 2007 when defenseman Mark Fayne earned the honor.  In addition, Mauermann is the first PC forward to be named to the all-rookie team since Colin McDonald in 2004.     Providence College was named Hockey East Team of the Week, while freshman forward Ross Mauermann was tabbed Hockey East Rookie of the Week on Monday, March 12.  It's the fourth time this season that the Friars have earned the league's team of the week honors.  For Mauermann, it's the first time he has garnered the league's rookie of the week accolade.

    Friars Tie Northeastern For Second Consecutive Night

    The Providence College men's hockey team (12-14-4, 10-10-3) and Northeastern (11-14-5, 7-12-4) played to a 2-2 overtime draw Saturday night in a Hockey East game played at Matthews Arena in Boston, Mass. It marked the second consecutive night that the two teams skated to a tie after last night's 1-1 game. The Friars recorded a season-high 49 shots, but Northeastern's Chris Rawlings made a season-high 47 stops. RECAP | USCHO RECAP

    Providence (10-11-2, 8-7-1 HE) defeated No. 11 UMass Lowell (14-7-0, 9-6-0 HE), by a score of 1-0 Tuesday night at Schneider Arena. Senior goaltender Alex Beaudry recorded his second shutout of the season in the victory. It marked Providence's first win over UMass Lowell since November 24, 2009.

    Providence will host No. 11/11 UMass Lowell at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 24 at Schneider Arena.  It will mark the first meeting between the two teams this season.  The Friars and the River Hawks also will face each other in the last two regular-season games on March 2-3.

    Friars Defeat Vermont, 5-2

    The Friars defeated Vermont, 5-2, Sunday afternoon in a Hockey East game played at the Gutterson Fieldhouse in Burlington, Vt.  Sophomore Derek Army and freshman Ross Mauermann each scored twice to lead the way for the Friars who earned their first win of 2012.  It also marked Providence's first win at Vermont since December 1, 2007.

    Former Friar Colin McDonald Makes Debut With Penguins

    Former Friar Colin McDonald '07 made his debut with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday, January 6 against the New York Rangers. In all, he has played two games.

    Prior to being called up, McDonald was playing for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. In 33 games, he had eight goals and 20 assists for 28 points. During the 2009-10 season, McDonald made his NHL debut with the Oilers and scored one goal. FULL STORY

    Friars And UMass Skate To 4-4 Overtime Tie

    Providence College and the University of Massachusetts skated to a 4-4 overtime tie Thursday night in a Hockey East game played at Schneider Arena. In a back-and-forth contest, the Friars scored with 1:39 left in the third period to take a 4-3 lead, but the Minutemen forced overtime as they scored with 37 seconds remaining.

    Former Friars Mark Fayne '10 and Matt Taormina '09 each had one assist to lead the New Jersey Devils to a 5-4 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday, December 12.  Fayne has played in all 29 games for the Devils this season and has seven points (3 g, 4 a).  His three goals lead all New Jersey defensemen. Taormina, who was recently called up from the Albany Devils of the AHL, has played in two games and has one assist.

    Friars, Alex Beaudry Earn Hockey East Weekly Honors

    The Friars were named Hockey East Co-Team of the Week, while senior goalie Alex Beaudry (Cumberland, Ont.) was tabbed Hockey East Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, December 5.  It's the second time this season that the Friars have earned the league's team of the week honors (October 17 was the other).  For Beaudry, it's the sixth time in his career that he has garnered the league's defensive player of the week accolades and the first this season.

    Friars Power Past No. 1 Merrimack, 6-1

    Providence erupted for four power-play goals in the second period (five total) en route to a 6-1 victory over No. 1 Merrimack Saturday night in a Hockey East game played Lawler Arena. With the victory, the Friars (8-6-1, 6-3-0) completed the weekend sweep of the top-ranked Warriors (9-2-1, 6-2-1). In addition, the Friars earned their first Hockey East road win since October 31, 2009. It also marked PC's first win at Lawler Arena since March 3, 2007.

    Providence will complete its weekend series versus No. 1 Merrimack tonight at Lawler Arena in North Andover, Mass.  Last night, the Friars ended No. 1 Merrimack's 10-game unbeaten streak with a 2-1 overtime victory at Schneider Arena.  The Friars are looking for their first win at Lawler Arena since March 3, 2007.

    Freshman Ross Mauermann scored 1:54 into overtime to lift the Providence College men's hockey team (7-6-1, 5-3-0 HE) to a 2-1 victory over previously unbeaten and No. 1 ranked Merrimack College (9-1-1, 6-1-1 HE) Friday night at Schneider Arena in front of a crowd of 2,381. The victory was the first for the Friars against a No. 1 ranked team since January 3, 2003 (a 4-2 triumph over No. 1 Maine).
